The One Man Band Logo was done using the program 3DS Max 9 by using a particle filter and gravity. The particles fell from behind the camera into each specific letters shape. That was accomplished by writing the text in Adobe Illustrator, then exporting it's outlines and importing that into 3DS Max.
This original logo for One Man Band's MIDI Made Easy was a simpler design but incorporated a more sophisticated entrance than the later design. The sound was also changed from the three note pitches played on a piano to a more complex introductory tune.
The change between versions was decided later on in the production process due to time constraints for the opening of each segment. I decided that there was nothing worse then sitting through really long introductions to peoples videos around the net, so I didn't want to fall into that category, of annoying, either.
At the time I was working on One Man Band's MIDI Made Easy, I was using the name Studio 455 as an identifier to most of my work. This 3D logo was another test development that was created using 3DS Max 9.
I began by recording my had with a conductors baton mimicking the "flicking" motion. I was able to export that from Final Cut and import it into 3DS Max. Once it was placed on a flat objects surface I was able to shatter it. Camera placement was key to the effect, the flat object containing the video was directly above the camera as it looked upwards. Gravity then sent the pieces downward as the camera paned around and then began to "fall" with them. Then it's just a short shot down the "long" O in studio to space on the other side in which we see it all explode.
All the audio was recorded and edited using Protools 7.
