Get Adobe Flash player

One of the hardest obstacles to overcome was the development and creation of the menu system. The basic idea was to create an interactive menu that resembled the different media players that were currently available on the Mac and Windows Platforms. After researching the different styles of the media players, I determined that it might be better to "re"-create them using flash.

For the Mac, I mimicked the look of their Front Row application. The menu buttons weren't to hard to recreate, however, the icons moving on the left side were a bit more difficult. I originally thought of using a "carousel" technique in flash to loop them around, depending on which button the cursor was over. In the end this idea was dropped, in part because it didn't look right. I later went with a different strategy of moving them along a path and adjusting the sizes to give the perception of distance.

or Windows, I merged multiple design elements from a few of their different media player versions. Getting the buttons to work was a bit of a challenge because of the cursors ability to float around.

During the end of the process I exported the videos into an HD format and incorporated them into the flash structure, so they may be viewed individually or all together. Some of the design elements were changed, including scrapping the original 3D Logos to go with a simpler more eloquent look.

Concept
  • Create a Mac & PC friendly user interface
  • Give the ability to choose the format
  • Attempt to create it for all "current" video disc formats (DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-Video)
  • High resolution Graphics
Menu Production
  • Mimic the look of multimedia applications from both Apple and Windows
  • Flash based menu system
  • Creation of 3D based logos
  • In order to keep the mouse cursor available to the user, adjustments needed to be made to each version
  • Originally used a "carousel" idea for the Apple background icons, opted for individual movements
Assembly
  • Original 3D Logos scrapped, re-created the logo introduction and graphics
  • Created several iconic representations of the different sections
  • Exported the all of the video to HD and implemented it into the Flash structure
